G8 UK Summit 2013
The 2013 G8 summit – hosted by UK prime minister David Cameron, at Lough Erne, County Fermanagh on 17-18 June – marks the first occasion that a UK summit has been hosted in Northern Ireland. With trade, tax and transparency at the heart of the leaders’ discussions, the summit returns to a traditionally economic agenda.
Other topics covered include the G8’s initiatives to move beyond development assistance to an emphasis on improving governance and accountability in developing countries, and efforts to deepen democracy by reinforcing the transformation that has been felt in North Africa and the Middle East and extending this to other conflict affected states.
The G8 UK Summit publication features articles by French president François Hollande and president of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso on the key issues under discussion.
