Royal Navy yearbook launches at the House of Commons

The vital work undertaken by the Royal Navy in defending the UK’s interests both at home and abroad needs to be highlighted so that its true importance is appreciated in these times of financial austerity. This was the message from Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, speaking at the launch of the 2010/11 edition of the Royal Navy’s official annual publication, A Global Force.

“I strongly commend A Global Force to each and every one of you,” said Admiral Stanhope, noting that the publication clearly and compelling sets out the case for a strong and highly capable maritime operation. Edited by European defence sector specialist and business analyst Simon Michell, the latest edition of the yearbook covers the full range of the Royal Navy’s tasks, including its contribution to national security, its fight against piracy and other illegal activity at sea and its humanitarian work.

The launch, which was hosted at the House of Commons by the Minister for International Security Strategy, Mr Gerald Howarth MP, took place on 14 December and was attended by Royal Navy dignitaries, officials from the Ministry of Defence and invited Members of Parliament.
