Produced on behalf of the African Union as part of its official anniversary celebrations, The African Union at 50 reflects on the evolution of the AU from its birth as the Organisation of African Unity in 1963, highlighting its progress and achievements over five decades as a catalyst for transformation throughout the continent. The publication also focuses on the strength of Africa’s diverse industrial base and the prospects for continued economic growth and development, including the AU’s work in advancing intra-African trade.

Featuring forewords and introductions from Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, chairperson of the African Union Commission; deputy chairperson Erastus Mwencha; Dr Carlos Lopes, executive secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa; and Salim Ahmed Salim, former secretary general of the Organisation of African Unity.
