G8 Italy

On 8-10 July 2009, the leaders of the Group of Eight (G8) major market democracies, their G5 partners (China, India, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa) and others gathered on the outskirts of L'Aquila for their 35th annual summit. Key issues on the agenda included the global financial crisis and economic slowdown, with the central aim of crafting a new global financial architecture to restore financial stability and economic growth and promote open trade and investment.

Leaders also addressed global challenges in clean energy, nuclear power, energy and food; development, through trade liberalisation; investment rules; information technology and telecommunications.

G8 - From La Maddalena to L'Aquila provides an in-depth treatment of the issues that were crafted and negotiated in the G8 process. It covers how the summit itself will deal with them, and the results for the world as a whole.

Contributors include: Silvio Berlusconi, Taro Aso, Lee Myung-bak, Nobuo Tanaka, Stephen Harper, Jacques Diouf, Margaret Chan, Kamalesh Sharma and Haruhiko Kuroda.
