Working towards global interoperability in the field of air traffic management (ATM) is the theme of the 2011 EUROCONTROL yearbook. The book begins by explaining what interoperability means in the context of ATM systems and why it is so important for
European airspace. It takes in commercial, military and general aviation and
shows how a seamless European system is a stepping stone to a global vision. The publication also looks at how interoperability reduces fragmentation in the aviation network and leads to greater efficiency and higher levels of safety and capacity. The yearbook features forewords from such high-profile industry bodies as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE) and the Transport regulatory authority of the European Commission.
