Newsdesk Media was proud to co-sponsor the recent US-Kazakhstan Convention, which took place on 11 December 2013 at the Hyatt Regency, Washington DC. The event was the first of its kind to bring together policymakers from both countries, alongside private-sector representatives and members of the investment community from the United States.

The Convention highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between the United States and Kazakhstan, which is positioned as a hub for trade and investment, cooperation and security in the Eurasian region.

Alan Spence, CEO of Newsdesk Media and president of the Atlantic Council of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, who spoke at the Convention, said: "There's a very good sense of friendship between the United States and Kazakhstan. Also, a big sense of where Kazakhstan is going from here: a pivotal ally in the fight against terrorism and a strong security relationship in general, which, of course, is part and parcel of a much deeper relationship – not only politically, but also in terms of trade and investment."

HE Kairat Umarov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States, hosted the Convention and declared himself "very satisfied" with the outcome of the day's discussion and debate: "I think it's broadened the vision of those who participated at this event – about Kazakhstan, what is going on in Kazakhstan, how we are going to develop our economy and our society in the future."

The Convention also provided an opportunity for members of the US Congress to be briefed on the agenda for the seventh Astana Economic Forum, which takes place in the Kazakh capital on 21-23 May. The Forum, which is expected to attract more than 8,500 delegates, brings together internationally renowned thinkers from the fields of politics, business and academia to consider new approaches to addressing the economic, social and environmental issues facing governments worldwide.
