London: The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help raised more than £85,000 at their annual Defence Industry Dinner on 23 November 2009.
The event was held in the historic surroundings of the Honourable Artillery Company, the oldest regiment in the British Army. Guests were welcomed by Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, Chief of the Defence Staff (pictured above) and the keynote speech was given by the Rt Hon Quentin Davies MP, Minister for Defence Equipment and Support.
A speech by Frances Shine, Chair of the Family Support Group for Injured Serving Personnel, raised awareness of SSAFA's Support Groups, which seek to provide emotional and practical support to bereaved families of service personnel, or the families whose loved ones have suffered serious injury as a result of war.
The event closed with SSAFA's charity auction. Prizes included private yachting tuition, a day at sea with the Royal Navy, and a race day with Lord Drayson in an Aston Martin.
Newsdesk Media continues to be a proud supporter of SSAFA through the latter's Corporate Friends programme.
