Invest in Africa 2012 was launched on 9 May 2012 at an evening reception hosted by Newsdesk Media and the African Union (AU) in the atrium of the AU's new conference centre at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. AU Commission deputy chairperson Erastus Mwencha (pictured) was joined by Ambassador Amina Ali and AU director of trade and industry Treasure Maphanga, as well as Newsdesk Media chairman Paul Duffen, to present the new publication to an audience of ambassadors, ministers and dignitaries, alongside representatives from the private sector. Mr Mwencha picked up on comments by Ambassador Ali about how Africa needs to write its own story, and highlighted the important role that Invest in Africa plays in that process. He noted that the world's media continue to find Africa's few conflicts more newsworthy than its many successes, which leaves the responsibility of spreading the myriad good news stories to Africa and its people. Invest in Africa plays a pivotal role in that communication strategy. Two hundred invited guests sampled local food and refreshments in the impressive surroundings of the AU's new conference centre following the Grow Africa Investment forum hosted by the African Union and the World Economic Forum.
