Cyber security, green growth and nuclear safety were just some of the challenges of global importance highlighted by the French presidency of the G8 at the summit held in Deauville in May 2011. The conference discussed these and other topical subjects, such as strengthening the G8’s partnership with Africa and the political reforms called for by the Arab Spring. Alongside these came debate on the traditional themes of peace and security.
The declarations of the summit included a renewed commitment to freedom and democracy, as well as a focus on shared values and responsibilities in terms of its links with the developing world.
