Posted on 20/04/2012

The leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa met in New Delhi on 29 March 2012 to discuss an agenda ranging from prosperity and development to energy, the environment, and peace and security.

The high-profile conference in India’s capital marked the fourth annual summit of this influential group of fast-developing economies, since the original four BRIC countries held their first official meeting in Russia in 2009.

Contributors to the BRICS New Delhi Summit 2012 publication include India’s Sudhir Vyas, Secretary of Economic Relations at the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian sherpa for the BRICS summit; Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov; Brazil’s João Pontes Nogueira from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica; Francis Kornegay at South Africa’s Institute for Global Dialogue; and Yu Yongding of China’s Institute of World Economics and Politics; as well as Jim O’Neill, Chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and the economist responsible for originally identifying and naming the BRIC states.
